Class Description

Welcome to Honors 6th Grade Math! This course builds foundational skills in mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. Students will explore math concepts through hands-on learning, discussions, and collaborative activities.

Aligned with Common Core State Standards for Grade 6 Math and **Grade 7 Math** students will study:

• Ratios & Proportional Relationships
• The Number System
• Expressions & Equations
• Geometry
• Statistics & Probability

We use district provided curriculum workbooks written by Illustrative Mathematics. These remain in the classroom.

As an honors course, students are expected to be operating on grade level and ready for rigorous, fast-paced instruction. Students who are not ready for this pace should consider placement in the regular Math 6 course instead.

This course emphasizes consistent effort, participation, and independent thinking.

Academic Grading

Scale

• A: 90%–100%
• B: 80%–89%
• C: 70%–79%
• D: 60%–69%
• F: < 60%

Weights

• Assessments: 40%
• Assignments: 30%
• Participation: 10%
• iReady: 10%
• IXL: 10%

Academic grades carry through the entire semester and reset at the start of the second semester.

They do not reset every 5 weeks like Work Habits and Cooperation grades.

All communication should be professional and conducted via email when not in person.
