Class Description

Welcome to 6th Grade Science! This course builds foundational skills in scientific thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. Students will explore science concepts through hands-on investigations, modeling, data analysis, and collaborative discussions.

Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards for Grade 6, students will study:

• Science and Engineering
• Systems in Organisms and Earth
• The Flow of Energy in Systems
• Weather and Climate
• Environmental and Genetic Influence on Organisms
• Human Impacts on the Environment

We use district provided curriculum workbooks written by HMH called Science Dimensions. These remain in the classroom.

This course emphasizes curiosity, consistent effort, participation, and independent thinking.

Academic Grading

Scale

• A: 90%–100%
• B: 80%–89%
• C: 70%–79%
• D: 60%–69%
• F: < 60%

Weights

• Assessments: 40%
• Self-Checks: 30%
• Assignments: 20%
• Participation: 10%

Academic grades carry through the entire semester and reset at the start of the second semester.

They do not reset every 5 weeks like Work Habits and Cooperation grades.

Communication

All communication should be professional and conducted via email when not in person.
